Poems published in Poetry News and Raceme in 2022

My poem ‘Losing Ground’, set on Britain’s rapidly eroding east coast, won the Spring 2022 Poetry News (The Poetry Society) competition judged by Sheri Benning on the theme of Solostalgia (a neologism meaning the emotional distress caused by place loss through environmental change). Benning commented that the poem ‘depicts a small, beautiful act of resistance’.

‘Losing Ground’ was published in Poetry News and online, and can be found here: https://poetrysociety.org.uk/poems/losing-ground

‘Shift’ and ‘Gift’ were published in Raceme No.13 Summer 2022. Developed from my research visits to archaeological sites on Orkney, the poems explore the past and present impacts of coastal erosion on communities and heritage sites.

Special thanks to Sue Dymoke (d. 2023) for encouraging me to submit my poems to both of these publications, and for all her kind support and friendship over the years. You will be greatly missed.
